Employment Law
Employment law has become a complex legal minefield, with legislation and regulations changing almost daily. Most of us will inevitably come up against a legal issue at some point; it is a sad fact of modern life that workplace relationships can become fragile and break down, which may put pressure on employees and businesses. This is where we come in.
For businesses
We represent employers in all contentious matters, as well as advising them on non-contentious issues such as the drafting of contracts, disciplinary procedures, staff handbooks and longer-term employment strategies.
Most importantly, we believe that prevention is better than cure. We help employers guard against disputes arising, potentially saving a great deal of management time and money. We offer packages which provide support and advice on an ongoing basis. This can include drafting policies, procedures and contracts and dealing correctly with absences and dismissals including redundancies and responding to employees’ claims and grievances.
For employees
Suffering problems at work can be a daunting and traumatic experience. The highly skilled, enthusiastic and friendly employment law team at Hanne & Co is here to advise you on what action you may be able to take against your employer and, where appropriate, assist you with making a claim. An experienced lawyer will help make the process as smooth and as painless as possible and will be with you every step of the way.
We provide straightforward, realistic and practical advice on issues such as:
- Unfair or wrongful dismissal
- Discrimination
- Working time regulations
- Minimum wage
- Negotiating your contract of employment
- Work-related stress
- Bullying at work
- Whistle-blowing
- Employment tribunals
- Compromise agreements
Mediation
Our accredited mediator, David Taylor, can provide a more conciliatory approach to employment problems. This can be extremely valuable when a claim from an employee is made whilst still in employment and when both sides wish to protect and maintain their working relationship. We can provide representation for both parties in the mediation process.
What will it cost me?
We will offer you what is known as a contingency fee agreement if we believe you have a winnable case. This is a ‘no win, no fee’ type of agreement whereby we are paid out of any damages awarded to you by the Tribunal or which have been negotiated with the other side. In many cases, your existing household or motor insurance policy will make provision for this service.
Are you affected by job cuts?
With many private and public sector organisations restructuring, jobs are increasingly being lost or are in jeopardy. If you believe you have been dismissed unfairly or that your employer has discriminated against you or failed to protect your rights, you should take legal advice.
Whether you work for a bank, an insurance company, a hospital, the Government or any other type of employer, if your job is at risk or has been cut, it is essential that you take sound legal advice. Our team of specialist employment lawyers will provide you with jargon-free advice and will guide you through this complicated area of law towards the best possible outcome.
