On the morning of Saturday 10th June the sun was shining and our nominated charity of the year- Jo’s cervical cancer, had their annual event: Steps for Jo. Steps for Jo is the charity’s annual sponsored 5k walk or 10k run which took place during Cervical Screening Awareness Week at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in London.
Before the start-whistle blew at 10am, walk-leaders read out the names of some people who have sadly lost their battle to cervical cancer. This was a reminder to all participants that this event is not only a great initiative to raise funds for the work that Jo’s trust does in providing help to those isolated by a cervical cancer diagnosis, but that it also is an event in memory of all those who have lost their lives to the disease.
Family, friends, colleagues, men, women and children of all ages and backgrounds gathered at the Olympic park. After around 1 hour of walking/running participants crossed the finish line where they were all awarded with a medal and a goody bag filled with treats to enjoy in the sun. There is nothing like seeing people coming together to show their support for an important cause and we at Hanne & Co are already looking forward to the next fundraising event.
Thank you to the Hanne team for their great effort and a special thank you to Lorna Cservenka who, in the heat, completed the 10k run in under 1 hour! Last but not least, a big thank you to all those who motivated us by donating money and helped us raise an incredible £470.54!
